On August 3rd, I relocated to Snug Harbor Cultural Center's red cottage as a artist in their Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). During the two month residency, I created a series of stories and adventures through ink, photography, sharpies and paint; then curated and installed my artwork in a 1,500 sq. foot gallery
From October 3rd to November 15th, I presented these illustrations and photographs at my first solo exhibition The Adventures of Ashley-Simone, in the Newhouse Center of Contemporary Art (Staten Island). These are the photos of the artwork.
P.S. Special thanks to Snug Harbor Cultural Center and the Van Lier Fellowship for the opportunity, space, and gallery; Jillian; Hilary and Harbor Eats for the hospitality.
Finally...ALBOE is going to have a permanent mural in NYC and we're inviting our friends to watch its process at our event, Burgers, Booze, and Bomb Ass Art, as part of the Crazy 8 Cartoon Festival. On October 17th, from 12-8, ALBOE will takeover Burger Joint's hidden alcove, from top to bottom, with black ink. Join us!

For the next two months, I'll be living at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center through their artist residency program. In that time, I'm going to create a series of artwork for a five-week solo show, at the conclusion of the residency. I have no idea what's going to be made in that time but I'm stoked to dedicate two, full months, to my illustrations and photography.
It's easy to forget how much time we give to others. It's even easier to forget how much time we give away instead of developing our crafts/side interests. So I'm happy, and extremely grateful, to have the time to figure out what I want out of this. Special thanks to Snug Harbor and the Van Lier Fellowship for the opportunity, space, and gallery.
Our work and creations are a series of impressions. "Impressionable Clouds" highlights the process of using the information picked up by the conscious and subconscious mind to create a world free from logical constraints.
I've been channeling my favorite cartoon shows to create my very own characters and stories on this 18 x 24 inch Bristol Vellum paper. Who knew that watching a ridiculous amount of Cartoon Network & Nickelodeon back in the day would come in handy today? I've come to realize that unknowingly soaking in those cartoons, something that most would think of as wasted time, has become a personal reference guide in which I can healthily escape the reality we know and live.
This piece is inspired by the shows I watched throughout my childhood, during a time where we are very, if not the most, impressionable. Furthermore, the 'Clouds' portion of the title refers to the act of looking up at the clouds and seeing 'things', or better yet, projections of our imagination.
This piece is very dear to me. It reminds me of my feelings and people in my life during a set period of time and it's creepily honest. I'm not one to journal or keep a diary but I've been able to document my experiences through these illustrated characters – as I bring them to life, I'm able to remember mine. When I see a character, I can recall who or what happened or where my mind was. It is my personal journal. However, it has the power to be a journal for whoever looks at it. No matter what, it'll be true to the viewer. I love trippy stuff like that aka I had hell of a time making this one.
I'm going to release this at the next art battle this Saturday, June 27th and raffle one off at the event. There will also be an official release next Thursday, July 2nd at 12 pm.
On Saturday, June 27th, ALBOE and Friend's will host Fight Night III, our third, quarterly live art battle. Artists and mystery location to be announced this Sunday, June 14th. Stay tuned!
Very interesting how this eye forces me to 'look' at myself... // It takes me a long time to finish my art projects. One of the reasons this happens comes from the need to walk away, which is very healthy and productive, but the other reason stems from fear. Fear from messing up; Fear from creating something I don't like; Fear that I might have to throw the project out because it doesn't meet my standards; Fear of wasted time. It sounds crazy, but it happens and I wait; wait until I'm 'ready' to finish. It's a very restrictive way of thinking because I always love what I create. // I've been struggling to love my process wholeheartedly and ironically, I end up wasting time. That itself makes me very upset and I hate being upset... Moral of the story: trust your process. It'll save you so much time // So I'm back to working on this project with fresh eyes and I'm hoping that I can fully embrace my process with disclipline. Bear with me, I'll be done with this eye soon. #illustration #illustrator #illo #art #artist #wip #iris #eye #pen #ink #artcollective #artfido #alboeart
