Our work and creations are a series of impressions. "Impressionable Clouds" highlights the process of using the information picked up by the conscious and subconscious mind to create a world free from logical constraints.
I've been channeling my favorite cartoon shows to create my very own characters and stories on this 18 x 24 inch Bristol Vellum paper. Who knew that watching a ridiculous amount of Cartoon Network & Nickelodeon back in the day would come in handy today? I've come to realize that unknowingly soaking in those cartoons, something that most would think of as wasted time, has become a personal reference guide in which I can healthily escape the reality we know and live.
This piece is inspired by the shows I watched throughout my childhood, during a time where we are very, if not the most, impressionable. Furthermore, the 'Clouds' portion of the title refers to the act of looking up at the clouds and seeing 'things', or better yet, projections of our imagination.
This piece is very dear to me. It reminds me of my feelings and people in my life during a set period of time and it's creepily honest. I'm not one to journal or keep a diary but I've been able to document my experiences through these illustrated characters – as I bring them to life, I'm able to remember mine. When I see a character, I can recall who or what happened or where my mind was. It is my personal journal. However, it has the power to be a journal for whoever looks at it. No matter what, it'll be true to the viewer. I love trippy stuff like that aka I had hell of a time making this one.
I'm going to release this at the next art battle this Saturday, June 27th and raffle one off at the event. There will also be an official release next Thursday, July 2nd at 12 pm.
