After 8 hours, over 2-3 weeks, the red, white and black 18" x 24" is finally done! I used paint markers for this one and once again, did not plan or sketch the illustration.
I decided to name this piece "MS." because its relations to childhood reminded me of the environment I work in. For Rush Philanthropic, I work in a lot of middle schools where all of the students address me as Miss/Ms. I also teach swim lessons where the little tots and kiddies call me Miss Ashley. It's simply my title and seemed the most relevant.
I've been working with a lot of kids these past couple of months, in pools and schools. Each and every student has taught me a lot in the time I've worked with them. In turn, I've encompassed the freedom to create like a child – using my own experiences as a reference to create. This piece started out from lines to shapes to characters, all brought to life from my subconscious. It was truly enlightening and fun.
A lot of the characters reminds me of my past – from people to TV shows. Do they remind you of anything? I'm curious to find out.
